ShortFormBlog: On Tumblr's API and WordPress integration

Really sad to see this. It’s a growing concern for me, actually, about Tumblr, is the message they’ve sent to people that use their APIs (or even don’t, like MissingE) that things can just change in an instant.

The interesting part is that I know at one point, WordPress.com had the whole “share to Tumblr” button embedded into their share system. I’m not even sure at this point if Tumblr’s share buttons are even still around anymore (and in truth, I never saw them on many sites).

This, along with the RSS deprecation last year (and the death of the workaround app, TumblrRSS), makes me think Tumblr is taking a cue from Twitter and wanting to limit how to automate content publishing on its platform. That’s sad. And it makes little sense.

The thing about Tumblr is that the community is everything. The software has never been good enough for people who really want a to customize their site, but the community makes it worth using systems like Tumblrize and so on.

Sad.
